If you play on both a Switch and a PC, the face buttons are a constant annoyance: Nintendo puts A on the right, Xbox puts it on the bottom. The 8BitDo Pro 3 fixes that with magnetic ABXY buttons you can pull off with the included tool and swap between Switch and Xbox layouts, so the prompt on screen always matches the button under your thumb.

It’s compatible with Switch 1 and 2, Windows PC, Apple devices, SteamOS and Android. The sticks use TMR sensors with a 12-bit sampling chip for precise readings, and the triggers have a switch that flips between linear Hall effect mode (smooth analog travel for racing) and tactile mode (short clicky presses for shooters). That one switch makes it suit very different genres.

There are two back buttons plus extra L4 and R4 bumpers, a tactile D-pad, three custom profiles and two ball-top stick caps in the box. The charging dock is built in, so it sits on your desk ready to go and reconnects as soon as you pick it up. This G Classic colorway nods to retro consoles, which won’t suit every setup. For someone who games across Switch, PC and a Steam Deck, it’s a versatile controller with nice extras.
