The Elite Series 2 Core is the stripped-down way into Microsoft’s pro controller. You get the same Elite controller with its adjustable-tension thumbsticks, wrap-around rubberized grip and shorter hair trigger locks, but in a box with fewer extras. The back paddles and spare sticks from the full version come in a Component Pack you can add later.

The tension adjustment is worth knowing about. Using the included tool, you can make the thumbsticks stiffer or looser, which changes how your aim feels in a shooter. Some players like a tighter stick for steadier micro-adjustments, others want it loose for quick turns. Hair trigger locks shorten trigger travel so shots fire with a quicker pull.

It saves up to three custom profiles on the controller itself and switches between them on the fly, and the Xbox Accessories app handles button mapping, including the color of the Xbox button light. Battery is rated at up to 40 hours, and it connects by Xbox Wireless, Bluetooth or USB-C to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows. Without the paddles in the box, the biggest pro feature is missing until you buy the pack.
