Streaming Gear
Mics, cams and capture cards for going live.
Streaming gear is what makes your stream look and sound better than the next one in the directory. This page collects microphones, webcams, lights and capture cards worth buying, for first streams and upgrades alike.
If you buy one thing, buy the microphone: viewers forgive a soft webcam faster than muddy audio. Each pick has a full write-up.

Streaming Gear: questions people ask
What should I buy first for streaming?
A decent USB microphone. Clear audio matters more to viewers than video quality.
Do I need a capture card?
Only to stream or record a console, or to use a second PC. Streaming PC games from the same PC needs no capture card.
USB or XLR microphone?
USB is plug-and-play and the easy start. XLR needs an audio interface but gives more room to upgrade later.
